Get results in days, not monthsResults in days, not monthsCustomers in Conshohocken and customers in Wellsboro both type a service and a town into Google, but the field they land in is very different. Across the 152 places on this site, median household income runs from $31,635 to $250,000 or more, the median age from 20 to 52.8, and 47 have a majority of renting households.
GetPhound offers SEO to small businesses on month-to-month plans. For every place below you will find public Census numbers, a competition score and research on the local area. Pick your town, or read the statewide view first.
How the list is built
Pennsylvania is divided into hundreds of boroughs and townships, and searchers rarely care which one a business is in. They type the name of the town. This guide follows that habit: 122 of the 152 pages are for cities and boroughs that the Census reports as places, and 30 are for named communities such as Levittown, Drexel Hill, King of Prussia, and Allison Park, which the Census calls census-designated places and which have no municipal government of their own.
Size varies widely. 10 places have 50,000 residents or more, 69 have between 10,000 and 50,000, and 73 have fewer than 10,000. Some of the smaller ones are included because they are business districts that draw customers from far beyond their own borders.
Region by region
Counties are gathered into 12 regions of our own making. Each figure is the median place in the region, which keeps one very large city from distorting a group.
| Region | Places | Typical age | Residents 65 or over | Renting households | Most contested place |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Montgomery County and the Main Line | 24 | 37.9 | 16.1% | 35% | Conshohocken |
| Harrisburg, Lancaster and York | 19 | 36.8 | 17.3% | 50.1% | Lancaster |
| Pittsburgh and Allegheny County | 16 | 44.1 | 21.4% | 26.5% | Whitehall |
| Northeast Pennsylvania and the Poconos | 15 | 39.6 | 19.3% | 47% | Dunmore |
| Central Pennsylvania and the Alleghenies | 12 | 38.4 | 17.8% | 48.4% | Altoona |

What an owner should check
An older population. In 27 places at least 22% of residents are 65 or older, and the oldest-skewing include Willow Street (38.3%), Stroudsburg (31.7%), Doylestown (30.4%). Searches in those places tend to be about health, home help and trusted local names, so reviews and an accurate map listing matter a great deal.
Renting and turnover. 47 places have a renter majority, and 75 of the 152 show a lower 2023 population estimate than their 2020 base. Where people move often, newcomers search before they ask a neighbor.
Commuting and education. In 4 places at least three in ten workers commute 45 minutes or more, while 42 have 15% or more working from home. 62 places have a bachelor's degree share of 40% or higher, a sign of professional customers who compare providers online.
The competition map
Each place carries a Place Search Competition Index from 0 to 100. It blends county-level competition, county business density, household income and how tightly people live. A high score means more businesses are working the same searches, which usually calls for more pages, a better map listing and more patience.
The whole list is on the ranking page.
Business districts
A place with few residents can still be a crowded search market when it sits in a busy county or is packed tightly. Among places under 10,000 residents, the highest scores belong to Conshohocken (9,182 residents, score 87.1), Jenkintown (4,703 residents, score 87.1), Narberth (4,478 residents, score 86.7). For a business in a place like these, the useful comparison is the surrounding county and the neighboring towns, which is why every page lists both.

Questions
Probably. Customers search by the name of the nearest borough, city or community, and those are the names this guide uses. Find the closest place to your location and read its page; we can plan pages for your exact township when you sign up.
Yes. The landing pages in a plan can be spread across towns and services, and each page here lists nearby places so you can plan the spread.
No. You pay for the plan, not for the size of the place. What differs is how much work the plan needs to do against the local competition.
